Beechfield, Torquay
Among the most demanding projects we’ve completed in recent times is Beechfield in Devon – an extensive award-winning housing scheme developed by national construction company Leadbitter.
This complex £1million plus timber frame contract in Torquay comprises a total of 121 apartments within seven apartment blocks consisting of two, three and four storeys.
Beechfield’s unique design features include curved elevations of timber frame and roof trusses, large projecting over hanging roofs and engineered truss overhang walls.
It also has projecting balconies supported within a timber frame structure, as well as factory fabricated pre-insulated wall panel systems.
And, as each of the seven blocks had its own individual design criteria, the talents of three MTE timber frame designers were called upon.
Other elements of this contract involved us using a self-erect tower crane and working within the confines of the 32 weeks contracted timber frame erect programme.
Thanks to its sustainable construction, all the apartments have a low carbon footprint, resulting in reduced running costs for residents.
Beechfield went on to win gold in the Best Starter Home category at the What House? Awards and this flagship scheme has been described as the south west region’s leading eco-development.
